Plant Light Meter
Give your plant an interactive cozy!
What you'll need:
Teknikio Light Sensor Board,
Scissors, needle, sewing thread
Cut the shape you want using felt to wrap around the flower pot. You may need to make it longer to fit around the flower pot you are designing for.
Plan your circuit
This circuit contains a beepboard, a light sensor, a batteryboard, and a snap or button. The snaps will secure the cozy around the pot.
Lay out your components on the fabric, making sure your conductive paths cannot overlap.
Power the Lightsensor
Tack on the other negative pad on the batteryboard, and sew to connect to the negative pad of the light sensor board. Tie a knot and cut your thread.
Tack on the positive pad on the light sensor board. Then sew the positive pad on the batteryboard to the positive pad on the light sensor board where the “+” pad is located. Tie a knot and cut your thread.
Connecting the Buzzer
Now, it’s time to connect the buzzer to the light sensor board. Re-thread if needed.
Sew a connection with conductive thread between the positive pad of the buzzer to the pad of the light sensor board that says “Sense Dark”. Tie a knot and cut your thread.
Ground the Buzzer
Place the batteryboard about an inch away from the snap. Sew with conductive thread to connect to the negative pad of the batteryboard to the negative pad of the buzzer. Wrap thread around pads around 3 - 5 times,. Secure with a knot and trim the extra thread.
Attach the button or snap
Take your needle with non-conductive thread and sew the snap or button to one side of the cozy.
If sewing a snap, sew the other side of the snap to the other side. Make sure that when you wrap the cozy around to bring the edges together, the snap can close. If sewing a button, cut a slit on the other side for the button to slide through.
Test your circuit
Wrap the cozy around the flower pot. Place battery in batteryboard. When the light sensor board senses darkness, the buzzer should go off! If the buzzer does not go off, please go to the troubleshooting page in the back of the guide.
Decorate your cozy with other materials!
