Celebrating CSEd Week

Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek)  celebrated every year during the second week of December in order to call attention to the importance of teaching computer science in schools and to promote access to computer science education for all students.

CSEdWeek is a yearly call to action that encourages K-12 students to learn computer science, advocate for equality in computer science education, and recognize the contributions of both students and teachers to the field. At Teknikio, we believe that future problem solvers need the right tools. That's what CSEdWeek is all about, and why we are celebrating it for the opportunity is has to invigorate the next generation of innovators.

The goal of Computer Science Education Week is to teach computer science to students from Kindergarten through twelfth grade and to advocate for and appreciate the importance of computer science education. Explore our free  Computational Thinking lessons to get started on your journey!

posture reminder

Computer science has assisted in solving problems in math and medicine, and been used to create impactful design. The technology used in computer science likewise built your smartphone, the internet, movies, and tv shows. Computer science has helped us eliminate diseases and positions us to explore the galaxy. Computer science helps us understand the past and build the future. It is everywhere, and every day, society is discovering new and valuable applications of it. In our increasingly digital world, computer science is a critical skill that can lead to a wide variety of careers.

Computing jobs are some of the fastest-growing and highest-paying in the world, and there is a severe shortage of qualified workers. We need more people with computing skills to help fill these jobs, keep our economy strong and our society improving as a whole. The need for improved access to computer science courses is being recognized throughout north America. Many schools are beginning, or planning to begin, new academic programs in computing. Yet despite this groundswell of interest, students still face unequal opportunities to learn computer science. Schools with less well-resourced educational environments have fewer courses available and experience higher attrition rates for those students who do enroll in computer science courses.

Computer science education is essential because it enables us to understand and create the technology that drives our modern society. Computer science is a key part of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education, and we can learn the basics of it at any age - even in kindergarten. CSEdWeek activities aim to inspire young people who may not realize that learning computer science can open up a world of possibilities for their future.

That’s why we’re so excited about CSEdWeek. It’s a chance to get more young people interested in computer science and to show them how it can open doors for their future. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating CSEdWeek and the importance of computer science education.
